The Milverton Four
Wheel Drives hit the road Saturday for yet another road game . The gang would
be headed to the picturesque village of Lucknow , home of hockey hero Paul
Henderson and Dave Farrish , both ex Maple leafs .A great accomplishment by a small village to
produce two pro hockey players. Could this be the night our heroes garner their
elusive first victory? In a few short hours the answer to this question would most certainly be
answered.
The Drives
opened the scoring at the 16:35 mark of the first period with Dennis Dewar
scoring on an assist from Chadwick Schwartzentruber . As habit would dictate
this year the Drives would let the opposition back into the game as the Lancers
would reply with a goal at 16:02 and tie the game . However, tonight it
appeared to be that all the stars were beginning to align for our hometown
heroes. Dennis Dewar would pot his second tally of the night with helpers from
Liam Buckley and Tyler Fassl. The Drives would add two more goals by Coleton
Quipp and Dewar with his third of the night. With the Drives up 4 -1 things
looked to be in control but the game is 60 minutes don’t ya know. The Lucknow squad would answer back trimming
the score to 4-2 . That score would stay until the final minute when Riley
Connors would score his first of the season to make it 5-2 heading off from the
first period.
The second
period featured a little less goal action as the teams battled back and forth
until Lucknow scored halfway through the second frame. With the score 5-3 Mike “ Vinnie” Vittelli would
gives the Drives a 3 goal margin again as he would score his first of the year
assisted by Dewar ( theres that name again) .Not to be outdone , Coleton Quipp
would add his second marker of the night with Jeff Fritzley and Tyler Fassl drawing helpers .
The final frame
of the game experienced even less scoring as the Drives would add to their goal
total. Chris Corbett with his fourth of the year would score with assists going to Brennan Watson and
Tyler Fassl with his third helper of the evening . Both teams must have been feeling
the love on this particular evening as only 5 minor penalties were called the
entire game and the tomfoolery was kept to a minimum . Perhaps there was a full
moon I wasn’t aware of or perhaps it was Mitch Boertien becoming a new parent ! At any rate , the
team would prevail and win the contest
8- 3 on a lovely night in Lucknow. With new confidence and optimism the
Drives will put their best foot forward
this Saturday as they face off against the Royals in Tavistock.
