The Milverton Four Wheel Drives had a two game home stand spread over two weekends against Ripley and Saugeen Shores .
The Milverton Four Wheel Drives opened up a two game home
stand with a Sunday matinee tilt with the Ripley Wolves . The home opener would
prove to be an exciting affair between the two league rivals although the
hometown favourites would fall to the visitors by a 5-1 score . The Wolves are
a balanced squad with plenty of speed and
creating plenty of opportunities off the
rush. The Drives gave the Ripley squad a few freebies by spending time in the
penalty box and the visitors took advantage by scoring two man advantage goals
. A couple other miscues by the home boys led to a couple other goals . The
score wasn’t indicative of the effort
put forth by the team . Chris Corbett was the only answer to the solving the
Ripley goalkeeper as he scored on a nice set up from Dennis Dewar .
The second game of
the home stand was Saturday evening against the Drives first game opponents the
Saugeen Shores Winter Hawks . The Drives were a tad short staffed for this
matchup with several regulars missing from the line up. Tim Bester would get
the nod to tend the twine for the night and he played magnificently turning
back the attack of the Winterhawks. Once again the Drives spent more than
enough of the game in the “time out area” as the “Hawks would score on at least
two power play opportunities that I could recall. I failed to see the
attraction why the penalty box appeared to be the place to be at. Even
Equipment Guru Teeky was confused by the
attraction to the penalty box by the Drives players ....truly confusing . Perhaps
the Drives should take a deep breath and get in contact with their inner zen
and stay away from infractions .No free passes , baby! Offensively, the Drives
had some good looks with some hit posts , breakaway chances and some good saves
by the ‘”Hawks keeper. The Drives would end up on the wrong side of a 4-0 score
.
The show hits the road next weekend as the Drives are in
Palmerston Friday night to play the 81s at 8:30 and Saturday night the Drives
travel to Creemore for a 7:30 rendezvous with the Coyotes. The next home game
is not until Sunday Nov 26 at 2pm
against Seaforth.
